The goals for the home featured below, in Jamul, CA, included creating an opening from the kitchen/family room area to the dining /living room which was previously divided by a wall. The client wanted to expand the island to a space that was large enough to seat several people and provide an ample workstation for cooking or other projects.
These goals were met beautifully by creating an arch opening to the dining area and designing a large island that took the place of a small table in the kitchen. An appliance garage was incorporated into the new layout, removing the clutter most often found on counters. The Mathis Custom Remodeling design team used white shaker custom cabinets with beautiful quartzite natural stone counters. The quartzite was also used on the backsplash above the stove, framed by coordinating tile as an accent. The finished project is simply stunning.
